Why this blog?

Well… why am I writing this blog? Who needs this blog? I suppose, most of all, I need it. I need a place to put down my thoughts. I need a place to clear my mind. I need a place to share.

Putting down my thoughts allows me to make sure I really understand what I’m talking about. It’s easy to think you know something until you try to explain it. As soon as you open your mouth to put it into words, an intricately woven idea becomes a pile of tattered strings in your hand. You have all the pieces, but you don’t quite understand how they fit together. Upon closer examination you may find you were wrong and throw some or all of the ideas away. But whether a good or bad idea, writing it down still frees up your thinking.

Clearing my mind frees it for other projects, personal responsibilities, and gives it rest. I have so many things I want to study and learn about but most of them remain rainy day projects. I don’t have a use for them even though they interest me. So I end up with thoughts running around in the back of my head about things I wish to do. I create lists of future endeavors, but nothing really comes to fruition. This blog is a tool to motivate me to get these projects done as I use them for writing material. The ideas will now have a purpose in reaching others.

But I need to share because I feel responsible to put this information into the world. This reason is probably the closest to my heart. I’m currently pursing a Theology degree and I expect to graduate in the Spring of 2025. I spend so much time studying, but I don’t have an outlet to share it all in the local church. My grandfather used to give me my own little personal sermons when I was a kid. He was a pastor and was really trying to give me good advice so I didn’t make the wrong choices when I got older. One day he stopped and said that the reason he makes sure to tell me all these things is because he knows that God will hold him accountable for sharing what he knows. If he knows something, he become responsible for it. That really stuck with me. I first started studying Scripture for personal edification, but the unintended consequence is that I feel there is an expectation on me from God to share the fruit of my labors.

I’m hoping this blog will not only fulfill all of my personal needs but that these reflections will be seeds for others. That they will stimulate thought and additional study. Whether people agree with my viewpoint or not, I hope I will help refine and clarify their thoughts as iron sharpens iron.
